LOS ANGELES — Crystal Goodwin and Ashton Reid combined for 29 points and the Occidental College women's basketball team had 14 assists in a 56-47 win over Pomona-Pitzer at Rush Gymnasium on Thursday.

Goodwin had a game-high 15 points, including two 3-pointers to help Oxy jump out to a 34-22 lead.

Reid finished with 14 points, six rebounds, two steals, one assist and no turnovers.

Oxy's lead got as high as 15 in the second half with 14 minutes left on a Tiffany Kho jumper, but the Sagehens chipped away with baskets off of turnovers. Pomona-Pitzer went on a 17-4 run to cut the lead to three, 49-46 with 6:23 left.

With 59 seconds left and a five-point lead, Reid pulled in an important defensive rebound and then sunk two free throws after being fouled, to seal the game.

"Both Ashton and Crystal played complete games tonight," Oxy coach Anahit Aladzhanyan said. "Not only did they score and shoot well, but they both rebounded and defended."

The two of them combined for 19 of their points in the first half alone.

Jenn Okonkwo led Pomona-Pitzer with 11 points and Basha Brulee-Wills had nine.

Elizabeth Messick carried the Tigers on the glass and was a force inside defensively, grabbing 11 rebounds and blocking five shots.

Oxy forced 26 turnovers with its full-court and half court pressure defenses.

The Tigers improve to 9-6 overall and 3-4 in SCIAC play. Pomona-Pitzer falls to 5-9 and 3-4.

Oxy returns to action this Saturday at Chapman at 7 p.m.

"We need a good day of practice tomorrow to get ready for maybe the best team in the conference," Aladzhanyan said. "It'll be tough on the road, but we're up for the challenge."
