Hilbert Stumbles to AMCC Loss to Bradford

More news about: Hilbert

Hamburg, NY - The Hilbert Hawks suffered a 58-43 point loss to Pitt-Bradford but not due to a lack of effort. Despite having yet to win an AMCC game, Hilbert was able to bounce back from runs made by the Panthers  and stayed within seven points the majority of the night. Natalie Whitman led the Hawks with 12 points and 18 rebounds.

The Panthers jumped out to a 19-7 lead early on by turning Hawk turnovers into points. Hilbert was able to cut the lead back down to seven by shooting a perfect eight for eight from the line. Despite only shooting 24.1% from the field, six Hawks players put points on the board in the first half. Hilbert went into the half trailing 30-23 and only had two fewer boards than the Panthers.

The Hawks continued to struggle shooting in the second half, making only 29% of their shots. The Hawk's finished 90% from the freethrow line but only 13.3% from behind the arc.

Whitman helped keep Hilbert in the rebound battle with her 18 boards and Jenah Labuski added another 7. The Hawks gave up 25 offensive boards which proved to be costly down the stretch.

Labuski also added two assists, as did Kylie Reinholz and Kateland Ball. Reinholz had a game-high five steals and two blocks.

Wyann Jackson's jumper at the 9:47 mark cut the Panther's lead to six points, which was the closest the Hawks would come for the remainder of the game. As the Hawks began to make runs of their own they gave up too many offensive rebounds in their 2-3 zone which led to second chance points for Bradford.

Twenty-six turnovers, leading to 26 points for the Panthers, were a key difference in the game. Pitt-Bradford only had 15 turnovers, which led to seven points for the Hawks.

The Hawks (1-12, 0-7) get back on the hardwood this Saturday against Pitt-Greensburg at 3pm and then return home on Monday against PS-Behrend.
