Folkers scores double-double to lead Stout past Pioneers, 76-65

PLATTEVILLE (January 11, 2014) - Katelynne Folkers scored her first career double-double to lead UW-Stout past UW-Platteville Saturday evening.

Folkers racked up 14 points, including three clutch free throws in the final seconds of play, and pulled down a career-best 14 rebounds.

Folkers had plenty of support. Sami Schoeder (Sr, Durand) scored 17 points for the second consecutive game and Kyleigh Hebert (So, Spencer) contributed 14 points.

The Pioneers led for the most of the first 10 minutes of the game, but once Jenna Goldsmith (Fr, ) gave Stout the lead at 16-15 midway through the first half, Stout never trailed the rest of the way and held as much as a 16 point, 71-56, lead with 2-minutes, 28-seconds left.

Platteville made a final charge at the Blue Devils, cutting the lead to nine points. Three free throws by Folkers put Stout back in charge.

Schoeder, Folkers and Hebert split the scoring evenly between the two halves. Schoeder scored nine points in the first half, while Folkers and Hebert second seven points in each half. Goldsmith finished with eight points, doubling her collegiate-best totals and matching her collegiate-best in rebounds with six.

Platteville's Alyssa Krajco matched Schoeder's 17 points and Melissa Carmody tossed in 15 points.

Stout shot 43.3 percent (26-60), Platteville 33.9 percent (20-59). Rebounds were almost even, with Stout holding a 43-41 advantage.

Stout will travel to UW-La Crosse, Wednesday, Jan. 15, before heading home, Saturday, Jan. 18 when they host UW-Oshkosh at 3 p.m.
