The Oglethorpe women's basketball team suffered a 71-48 loss to Hendrix in Conway, Ark., on their return to SAA play Friday night. The defeat drops them to 3-10 on the season, 1-1 in SAA play.

The game did not start well for the Stormy Petrels. They fell behind 10-2 in the game's first five minutes, and the home-standing Warriors further went on a 24-5 run to take a 26-7 lead with 6:51 left in the half. The Petrels then went on a 9-2 run over the next 4:15 to cut the lead down to 12 points, 28-16, with 2:38 left in the half. From there, the two teams traded baskets for the rest of the half and Hendrix led, 33-19, at the break.

The Petrels shot just 17 percent for the half, in comparison to Hendrix's 41 percent. The Warriors also outrebounded the Petrels for the half, 23-19.

In the second half, the Warriors pulled away early. They began the period on a 13-5 run, giving them a 46-24 lead with 14:04 remaining. They then followed that up with another huge run, this one 13-1 over 3:45, to all but completely put the game away and give themselves a 59-28 advantage with 9:44 remaining. Hendrix essentially cruised from there, outscoring the Petrels 38-29 for the half and coming away with the 23-point victory.

The Petrels shot better in the second half, firing at a 35-percent clip to their opponents' 37 percent, but they were again significantly outrebounded for the stanza, this time by a 28-13 margin.

For the game, Hendrix outshot the Petrels 39-to-26 percent, and shot only 18 percent from long distance to their opponents' 33 percent. The Petrels were outrebounded, 52-35, and had only seven assists to Hendrix's 19. Hendrix outscored the Petrels 14-4 on the fast break. 

Sophmore forward Ali Bleckley led the Petrels with 13 points. She also grabbed five rebounds and shot 4-of-6 from the free-throw line. Sophomore guard Emily Buck scored 11 points and contributed three assists and two steals.

The Petrels will now travel to Memphis, Tenn., to take on Rhodes on Sunday at 2 p.m. Eastern time before returning to Dorough Field House for five straight home games in SAA play.
