Oberlin, Ohio – With just eight healthy bodies in uniform, the Oberlin College women's basketball team earned one of its biggest wins in Head Coach Kerry Jenkins' tenure, knocking off the visiting Ladies of Kenyon College, 54-50, on Wednesday night at Philips Gym.

The Ladies came to Oberlin riding a five-game winning streak with a record of 8-3 overall and 3-0 in the NCAC. However, the Yeowomen put an end to that, dealing them their first loss since November 30 and first NCAC blemish of the year.

While the game itself was not pretty with both teams shooting under 32-percent, the end result certainly was for Yeowomen fans.

Christina Marquette recorded her third straight double-double with 17 points to go along with a career-high 20 rebounds. Sophomore Lindsey Bernhardt dialed in on five 3-pointers en route to netting 18 points, while Malisa Hoak chipped with 11.

Both teams struggled to find their offensive rhythm in the first half. A Connie Estevez layup with 6:28 left in the frame gave Oberlin a 16-15 edge, but the half would ultimately come to an end on a buzzer-beating jumper from Autumn Anderson to give the Ladies a 25-22 advantage at the intermission.

The second half started out great for Oberlin as three-straight 3-pointers from Bernhardt mixed with six points from Marquette put the Yeowomen out front 37-27 at the 15:38 mark.

The Ladies battled back to tie the game at 41 following a Maureen Hirt layup with 10:16 remaining. It would be nip and tuck the rest of the way as no more than six points separated the two foes.

With 36 seconds left on the clock, a pair of free throws from Hoak gave the Yeowomen a 53-47 lead. Following a few missed opportunities by both teams, a triple from Hirt made it a one-possession game, but just four seconds remained. A quick foul by Kenyon would send Bernhardt to line where she made her second of two attempts to secure the win.

Oberlin shot just 29.6-percent (16-of-54) from the field, but capitalized at the charity stripe where they made 17-of-21 freebies for an 81-percent success rate.

The Yeowomen held the Ladies to 31.7-percent (20-of-63) shooting and won the rebounding battle 45-39. The Ladies attempted just seven free throws – cashing in on five.

The Yeowomen, who improved to 7-5 overall and 2-1 in the NCAC, will look for their third straight conference win when Hiram College comes to town on Saturday afternoon for a 1 p.m. clash.
