Ferrum College Rallies for 62-57 win over LC Women

LYNCHBURG, VA – The nationally ranked Ferrum College women's basketball team rallied from 12 points down in the second half Tuesday to defeat Lynchburg College 62-57 in a non-conference game.  

LC led 37-25 at intermission as the Hornet defense held the Panthers to just 29 percent shooting (10-34) in the first 20 minutes. Lynchburg hit 50 percent of its shots (16-32) in the first half.

The Hornets led 48-36 following a layup from Caleigh Patterson with 8:18 left. Ferrum took over from there, using a 16-1 run to pull ahead 52-49 with just under three minutes to play. Junior Shannon Allan drilled a three-pointer to tie the score, but back-to-back layups from Katy Kipps pushed the Panthers back ahead by four. Allan nailed another ball from beyond the three-point arc with 20 seconds left, but Ferrum sank four late free throws to seal the game.

Junior Lauren Penley made 6-of-7 shots for a team-best 13 points and added six rebounds. Allan had 11 points and five rebounds while Sammi Goldsmith tallied 10 points, four rebounds and four assists. Chaney Forbush snared a team-high 11 rebounds.

Kylene Culler paced Ferrum (7-0 - ranked #22 in the D3Hoops.com top 25 this week) with 14 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Boreika Burwell had 15 points and eight rebound and Katy Kipps added 13 points and seven rebounds.

The Hornets (5-7) host Randolph-Macon College at 4 p.m. Saturday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game.
