Rangers Drop Third-Straight in Non-Conference Finale

MADISON, N.J. (January 7, 2014) – Despite a career-high 20 points from junior Breana Wilson (Irvington, N.J./B erkshire School), the Drew University women's basketball team fell to Misericordia (6-6), 65-58 in the final non-conference bout of the season. The Rangers fall in their third straight contest and fall to 7-5 on the year.

Wilson netted 11 of her 20 in the first half of play and was 8-of-18 from the floor for the game. She also dished off five assists and grabbed five rebounds. Sophomore Erin Howard (Tolland, Conn./East Catholic) was the only other Ranger in double figures with 13 points and six rebounds.

The Cougars mounted a second half comeback led by Sam Baro who netted 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting in the final 20 minutes. She finished with a 18 points and five rebounds. After Drew scored the first two buckets of the second half, Misericoridia ripped off a 13-2 run. Sam Baro scored seven of the 13 points during the near four-minute stretch.

The two teams battled over the next six minutes with the lead changing hands seven different times. A final push by the Cougars proved to be two much as the visitors put together a 11-2 run beginning at the 5:53 mark. After a Justine Seely layup with 3:02 remaining, the Cougars found themselves with a 59-51 lead with 3:02 remaining.  Seely recorded a double-double in the contest, scoring a team-high 20 points and pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds. She also had an astounding seven blocks on the afternoon, tying a school record set in 1996.

The Rangers struggled from the field, shooting a season-low, 32 percent from the field. Misericordia was locked in over the final 20 minutes shooting 50 percent from the field. The also held a 48-40 advantage in rebounding.

One game removed from a career-high eight assists, senior Lexie Forsell (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro) was the Rangers top distributor with six assists on the afternoon.

The Rangers will start conference play back up on Saturday when they play the nightcap of a men's/women's doubleheader against Susquehanna. Game time is set for approximately 4:00 p.m. in Baldwin Gym.
