Trinity Women's Basketball Sinks Crosstown Rival St. Joseph

Hartford, Conn. – Senior Taylor Murtaugh (Bronx, N.Y.) had 23 points and eight rebounds to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 74-62 win over the University of St. Joseph Blue Jays in women's basketball action this evening at the O'Connell Athletic Center.  Trinity improves to 6-5 with its second straight win, while the Blue Jays drop to 6-5 with their first loss in four games.

Trinity took a 6-5 lead on a lay-up by junior forward Hannah Brickley (Melrose, Mass.) three minutes into the game and led the rest of the way.  A traditional three-point play by sophomore center Mackenzie Griffin (Stamford, Conn.) increased the Trinity advantage to double digits for the first time at 17-7 with 12:18 left in the first half.  The visitors led by as many as 15 points in the opening stanza, and led, 38-27 at the break thanks to Murtaugh's 13 first-half points.  St. Joseph fought back in the second half and cut its deficit to 48-40 at the 11:35 mark on a free throw by junior forward Heather Framski (Prospect, Conn.).  Trinity pulled back ahead by 15 points at 61-46 after two from the foul line by Brickley with five minutes remaining and maintained at least a 10-point cushion until the final horn.

Murtaugh sank 10 of her 17 shots from the field, and was joined by Brickley and senior Moriah Sweeney (Ramsey, N.J.) among Trinity's double-digit scorers with 12 points apiece.  Brickley also grabbed seven rebounds and dished three assists, while Sweeney added four rebounds and three steals.  Griffin pulled down a game-high 12 boards and blocked a shot.  Framski paced the Blue Jays with 23 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks, while senior guard Devon Diliberto (Waterbury, Conn.) scored 21 points.
