ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — The Elizabethtown College women's basketball team continued its hot streak in convincing fashion Monday evening at Thompson Gymnasium, defeating visiting Muhlenberg 81-56 in non-conference action. Rachel Forjan set another career high in points and Taylor Kreider recorded her second straight double-double to begin 2014.

E-town (9-0) wasted no time in jumping out in front of the Mules (5-5). Kreider, Forjan, Kendra Beittel, and Taylor Alwine each hit baskets to put the Jays up 8-2 early. After a Nicole Pepe layup cut the lead in half, EC went on a 12-2 run to blow things open. Beittel (steal, fast break layup) and Kreider (jumper) initiated the run and Forjan capped it off with her second three-pointer of the first half to make it 20-6.

Forjan shot 6-for-10 (4-for-6 3P) in the opening half for 16 points. As a team, the Blue Jays were 16-for-34 (47.1%) and 5-for-10 from beyond the arc.

Defensively, E-town picked up right where they left off from Saturday's game against Hood. They forced 14 first-half turnovers from Muhlenberg and turned them into 22 points. The Mules only shot 20 percent (7-for-35) from the field in the first half. EC led 42-18 at the break.

Forjan continued her efficient shooting night in the second half, hitting four of five shots, to set a new career best for the second time this season. Her 26 points on the night were a team and game high for the sophomore.

The Jays continued pouring in the points in second half, shooting 46.9% (15-for-32). Krissy Pennell stole the ball and then found Nikki Thompson in transition. Thompson drained a three to run E-town's advantage to 40 points (70-30), the largest of the night, with 10:55 remaining.

Kreider grabbed seven of her team-high 12 rebounds after the half and notched her fifth double-double of the season, finishing with 14 points and the 12 boards. She flirted with a triple-double, needing only three more assists.

Thompson was the third Blue Jay player to reach double figures, recording ten points, including two three-pointers. Alwine had four steals to go along with five points and five rebounds.

The Jays, a top-30 team in terms of field goal percentage defense, held Muhlenberg to just 25.4% (18-for-71). That dropped their opponents' season average from .326 to .316, which would move them into the top 20.

The women's basketball team will look to keep momentum rolling heading into Wednesday's showdown with nationally-ranked Lebanon Valley. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
