Buena Vista's Gilley Named IIAC Female Athlete of the Week

The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced its first weekly honors in 2014 on Monday evening, and Buena Vista senior center Malarie Gilley has been recognized as the league's Female Athlete of the Week.

This is the second time this season Gilley has garned such honors for her play on the court.  Over the last week, she avereaged 16 points and 15 rebounds, while helping the Beavers split their final two non-conference contests.

In a 78-69 home win over Bethel University back on December 28, 2013, she turned in 17 points and 17 rebounds, as BVU handed the Royals their first loss of the season.  She followed that up with her sixth double-double of the season, scoring 15 points and grabbing 13 rebounds, to go along with five blocks, during the Beavers' tough 86-81 loss on January 4, 2014, to Iowa Wesleyan.

She finished the week shooting 13-for-33 and is currenty the only player in the Iowa Conference averaging a double-double for the year, including 11.3 rebounds per game.

Buena Vista closes out the non-conference slate at 6-5 and will get set to begin IIAC play this Wednesday night at Coe College.  Tip-off at Cedar Rapids with the Kohawks is scheduled for 6:00pm.
