North Carolina Wesleyan Rallies to Beat LC Women 67-66

LYNCHBURG, VA – Kenyata Harris drilled a three-pointer as time expired to give the North Carolina Wesleyan College women's basketball team a come-from-behind 67-66 victory Friday evening at Lynchburg College in a non-conference matchup.

The Hornets led 40-29 at intermission and seemingly had the game locked up with a 17-point lead in the second half. LC still held a 64-52 advantage after a Shannon Allan jumper with three minutes remaining in the game. A 9-0 run with baskets from four different players pushed the Battling Bishops within three. LC's Ann Dorris hit a pair of free throws with 28 seconds left, but a three-pointer by Harris cut the lead to 66-64 with 16 ticks remaining on the game clock. A Hornet offensive foul set up NCWC with one final possession to attempt to force overtime or win in regulation. Following a pair of misses from the floor, NeTaih Davis grabbed the rebound and found Harris in just enough time to launch the game-ending three-point basket.

Sophomore Chaney Forbush posted a game-high 18 points for Lynchburg, and grabbed a team-best nine rebounds. She also blocked two shots and had two steals. Allan finished with 17 points and seven rebounds and Sammi Goldsmith scored 10 points and handed out four assists. Caleigh Patterson contributed five points, five rebounds and four assists.

Tiffany Bell paced the Battling Bishops (2-4) with 15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals. Harris tallied 13 points and nine rebounds while Davis posted 13 points and eight caroms. NCWC grabbed 24 offensive rebounds, 17 in the second half. The Bishops were able to shoot 25 extra shots from the floor (82 to 57) thanks in part to the rebound advantage and 24 Hornet turnovers.

The Hornets (5-6) host Ferrum College Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in more non-conference play.
