William Paterson Women’s Basketball Defeats Manhattanville, 75-57

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (5-5) finished its first-semester schedule with a 75-57 home victory against Manhattanville (1-8) Dec. 19.

 

After overcoming a sluggish start, the Pioneers made their next five shots, transforming a 20-11 advantage into a 34-14 lead at the 7:08 mark. WP entered the locker room with a 43-26 edge behind senior guard Floriana Borova's (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) 13 first-half points as the Pioneers caused 14 Valiant turnovers and owned a 17-4 scoring margin off the miscues.

 

William Paterson's lead grew to as many as 24 (69-45, 5:48) during the second stanza despite the Pioneers' reserves seeing the majority of action. Borova led four players in double figures with 17 points, adding eight rebounds, four assists and a game-best six steals. Freshman forward Maya Harris (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) collected 14 tallies and nine rebounds, sophomore guard Brittany Harden (Millville, N.J./Sacred Heart) had 14 points, five steals and a game-high five assists, and senior forward Brittany Ennis (Lambertville, N.J./South Hunterdon Regional) posted 11 tallies and six boards. Junior center Ashley Marfo (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) added seven points to her game-best 13 rebounds.

 

Sophomore guard Ashley Franklin paced Manhattanville with 16 points, chipping in eight rebounds. Junior center Alyson Caiazzo registered a double-double with 11 tallies and 12 boards.

 

William Paterson will return to action Friday, Jan. 3, against Scranton at the Western Connecticut Tournament at 7:00 p.m.
