Strong Bench Play Lifts Women’s Hoops

Junior Erica Pendrak (New Hartford, NY/New York Mills) came off the bench to score a season-high 13 points and senior Casey Chamberlain (Perry, NY/Perry) recorded her first double-double of the season as the Keuka College women's basketball team closed out the 2013 portion of the schedule with a 67-52 win over SUNY Cobleskill Sunday inside the Weed Physical Arts Center.

The Storm's bench scored 25 first-half points and finished with 34 points to spark Keuka to the win.

Pendrak shot 66.7 percent (6-for-9) while Chamberlain added 13 rebounds, 12 points and 4 blocks as the Storm (3-4, 3-1 NEAC) won for the ninth time in the last 12 meetings with Cobleskill (1-7, 1-3).

Senior Jessica Bandrowski (Center Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) added 12 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals, junior Brittany Hadley (Jasper, NY/Jasper-Troupsburg) recorded eight points with four rebounds and freshman Katie Stuart (Tupper Lake, NY/Tupper Lake) totaled 6 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in the win.

All 11 members of the Storm who played scored during the win. A stiff Keuka defense limited Cobleskill to 19-for-83 shooting (22.9 percent), including 8-for-45 (17.8 percent) in the second half.

In a back-and-forth first half, Cobleskill took a 21-20 lead on a '3' from Tracee Schiebel (14 points, 10 rebounds) with 10:35 remaining before halftime.

Keuka used a 12-3 run to take a 32-24 lead on a Stuart layup with 5:45 left in the first. Chamberlain added a layup, sophomore Mackenzie Cole (Ogdensburg, NY/Ogdensburg Free Academy) knocked down a '3' and Chamberlain and junior Amanda Kubitz (Spencerport, NY/E.J. Wilson) each made two free throws as Keuka took a 43-29 lead into intermission.

Bandrowski converted back-to-back layups as the Storm's lead swelled to 49-31 with 14:17 remaining, and the Green and Gold maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the game.

Cobleskill clawed within 57-47 on a '3' from Shelby Preston (20 points, 12 rebounds) with 5:13 remaining, but Keuka answered with a 10-3 run to pull away for good. Senior Taylor Szwec (Candor, NY/Candor) closed the spurt by hitting a layup and the subsequent free throw to give the Storm a 67-50 lead with 1:16 remaining.

The Storm are off for the rest of 2013 and return to action with an 8 p.m. non-conference home game against RIT on Jan. 7, 2014.
