#21 Ithaca Rallies for 72-62 Win vs. Cortland

ITHACA, N.Y. – Ithaca outscored Cortland by a 20-8 margin over the final five minutes as the nationally 21st-ranked Bombers rallied to defeat the Red Dragons, 72-62, in a non-league women's basketball game.

Mary Kate Tierney scored eight of her game-high 28 points and Kathryn Campbell tallied seven of her 14 points during that decisive stretch that erased a Cortland lead. Tierney also shared the team lead, along with Jenn Escobido, with eight rebounds and Samantha Klie finished with nine points and five assists. Ithaca improved to 4-1 with the victory.

Cortland (4-2) was led by junior Lindsey Minor's (Wheatley Heights/St. John the Baptist) career-high 17 points. She made 6-of-9 shots from the floor and 5-of-6 free throws. Minor also matched her career best with five steals.

Senior Megan Touhey (Maine/Maine-Endwell) scored 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting and senior Grace Williamson (Olean) scored 11 points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Junior Phoebe Byrnes (Binghamton) made 2-of-4 shots from the 3-point arc and finished with eight points.

Cortland trailed 35-21 with 4:44 left in the first half, but the Red Dragons rallied and were within five at 39-34 on Minor's buzzer-beating layup. Cortland grabbed a 42-39 lead on a Byrnes 3-pointer with 16:11 left and held its largest lead of the game at 48-44 on a Touhey layup with 8:56 remaining.

The Red Dragons took their final lead at 54-52 when Minor hit a jumper with 5:11 on the clock. Tierney sank a trey with 4:57 left to put Ithaca ahead and Klie made two foul shots with 4:25 left to give the Bombers a three-point edge.

Cortland turned the ball over on its next possession. Ithaca missed three shots on its next trip down the court, but registered offensive rebounds each time. Tierney then hit a layup and was fouled with 3:09 left, and her free throw to complete the 3-point play put Ithaca up by six.

Touhey hit a shot with three minutes left to cut the deficit to four, but Campbell scored with 2:37 left and hit a 3-pointer with 2:09 remaining, following a Red Dragon turnover, to push the lead to nine. Cortland got no closer the rest of the way.

Cortland shot 50 percent from the field in the first half and finished the game at 46 percent. The Red Dragons held Ithaca to 38 percent shooting for the game. Both teams made 21 field goals, but Ithaca hit six 3-pointers to Cortland's five and outscored the Red Dragons on the foul line, 24-15. The Bombers also outrebounded Cortland, 43-27, with 15 offensive rebounds to Cortland's three.
