MADISON, N.J. – (December 1, 2013) – The Rangers had their upset bid come up short late in the game, as women's basketball fell, 74-63 to cross-street rival FDU-Florham (6-0) this evening. The Rangers suffer their first loss of the season, dropping to 4-1.

The Rangers erased a 12-point, second half deficit and tied the game up at 59 with 6:01 remaining. The high pressure FDU defense proved to be the difference as they allowed only four points in the final six minutes of the game. Running a full-court press for the majority of the game, the Devils were able to produce 27 Drew turnovers.

Freshman Hannah Miller (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) led all scorers with 17 points for the Rangers. She grabbed eight rebounds and was 7-of-14 from the floor. Senior Brianna Reich (Sea Bright, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) put forth a tremendous all-around performance, scoring a career-high 13 points on 5-of-5 shooting. Sophomore Erin Howard (Tolland, Conn./East Catholic) scored eight of her 10 points in the second half to round out the Drew double-digit scorers.

After falling behind by 12 points with 10:44 remaining in the game, the Rangers roared back with a 15-4 run. Howard and Reich combined for 10 of the 15 points in the near five-minute stretch. The Devils answered with the next nine points, four of which came from Rachel Groom. The sophomore finished with a double-double, 10 points and game-high 11 rebounds.

Jalessa Lewis had a team-high 15 points for FDU, including an 8-for-12 effort from the free throw line. The duo of Kara and Kyra Dayon combined for 23 points to help pace the Devil attack.

A 2012-13 NCAA Tournament qualifier, FDU came into the game ranked 17th in the latest d3hoops.com Women's Top 25 Poll and 20th in the USA Today Sports Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Devils have taken the last two from the Rangers and own a 32-17 advantage in a series that dates back to 1980.

Drew will begin five-game road trip beginning on Wednesday with Albertus Magnus before returning home on January 7th to take on Misericordia. The tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday in New Haven, Conn.
