HOBOKEN, N.J. – A late surge by host Stevens (5-1) handed the William Paterson women's basketball team (2-4) a 77-72 loss Nov. 30.

Senior guard Floriana Borova (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) led three Pioneers in double figures in scoring with 17 points, adding eight rebounds, four steals and a game-best eight assists. Sophomore guard Brittany Harden (Millville, N.J./Sacred Heart) notched a double-double with 15 tallies and 12 boards, adding a game-high five steals, while senior guard Kristine Jackiewicz (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) had 14 points. Junior center Ashley Marfo (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) finished with eight tallies and 12 rebounds off the bench.

WP expanded a 37-36 halftime lead into a 56-48 edge with 10:08 to play. A 10-2 Duck run knotted the score at 58-58 at the 7:50 mark, and five lead changes and three ties marked the next five minutes. Freshman guard Ashley Palmieri's (Edison, N.J./Metuchen) tip-in handed the Pioneers a 69-68 advantage with 2:56 on the clock, but two Miranda Ripken free throws nudged Stevens ahead by a 70-69 count 33 seconds later.

Two William Paterson turnovers sandwiched a Duck series that consisted of three misses, and a Stevens turnover was followed by a Pioneer miss. Marfo pulled down the offensive rebound and was fouled, but she could not connect on either attempt from the charity stripe with 45 seconds remaining in a one-point game.

Ripken went 2-for-2 at the free-throw line (72-69, 0:29), and after a Borova offensive foul, another WP foul put Dylan Krause at the line and she made two for a 74-69 score with 19 seconds left. Harden's second-chance three-pointer cut the lead to two (74-72, 0:11) and William Paterson was forced to foul, but Ripken again made a pair, this time with seven seconds on the clock. A final Pioneer miss and foul allowed Lisa Tessitore to score the game's final point with one second remaining.

Ripken led all players with 22 points. Avis Benjamin contributed 17 tallies and 11 rebounds for the Ducks.

William Paterson will host Richard Stockton Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 6:00 p.m.
