ANDERSON, Ind. – Brett de Bear and Olivia Savage scored layuup and Miranda Bates knocked down a baseline jumper in the final minute as Albion College overcame a five-point deficit in the final minute to earn a 72-71 victory over Anderson University in a non-league women's basketball game.

Anderson led by as many as 11 midway through the second half. de Bear and Savage produced seven points apiece to lead Albion on a 18-7 run that forged a tie at 59. The Britons edged in front , 60-59, when Bates sank the second of two shots from the free throw line.

Jenna Wittenberg and Shelby Sgaffer combined to score Anderson's next nine points and the Ravens led, 68-62, with less than 2 ½ minutes remaining.

Baskets in the lane by Savage and de Bear trimmed Albion's deficit to 68-66, but Shaffer produced an old-fashioned three-point play as Anderson expanded the margin to 71-66 with a minute left.

de Bear led all players with 27 points. She finished the two games at Anderson with 59 points, shooting 54 percent from the field (20-of-37) and nearly 90 percent (17-of-19) from the free throw line.

Danielle Fraley and Savage produced career scoring highs of 13 and 11, respectively. Fraley, who reached double figures for the third time in her Briton career, made 6-of-11 shots from the field. Savage, a first-year player, also grabbed six rebounds.

Albion, 1-2 on the young season, continues non-league play on the road Tuesday with a game at Dominican (Ill.) University.
