FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's basketball team lost a 82-55 non-conference game at Fredonia State November 23. The Blue Devils enjoyed their 2013 home-opening win as a result of tough defense forcing the Hawks into quick shots and turnovers.

Sophomore Kylie Reinholz and freshman Kenya Williams shared scoring honors with eight points each to lead twelve different Hilbert players in the scoring column.

Natalie Whitman (8 rebounds) and Jenah Labuski (7) controlled the boards for the Hawks who out outrebounded Fredonia by seven en route to a 16-offensive team rebound performance.

Fredonia benefitted from Becky Hebert's 28 points on nine of 15 shooting (four of five 3-point shots).

The Blue Devils led by as many as 20 points in the first half. In that time frame, Fredonia shot 53 percent (16 of 30) from the floor, compared to 33 percent (9 of 27) by the Hawks. Emily Spiedel went two-for-three beyond the arc as the Hawks' first-half scoring leader, just ahead of Wyann Jackson who shot two-for-three from the floor. Fredonia held a 38-23 lead at the break.

Things didn't change much for Hilbert in the second half. Hilbert hit the same nine buckets and one less three-pointer, but made 11 foul shots. Kenya Williams made all three shots after the break, hitting one three-point shot.

Fredonia increased their three-point shooting percentage to 50% making 6-of-the-12 attempts to further stretch their lead and set the final score. Fredonia State (3-1) had a decided advantage in steals and assists while forcing 25 turnovers.

Hilbert (1-3) has a few days off before their next contest December 2nd at Wells College in Aurora, NY.
