BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team earned its largest win of the young season, coming away with a 71-51 victory over Colby College Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks are 4-0 to begin the season for the second time in three years. Back during the opening of the 2011-12 campaign, RWU rolled off four straight wins as well to kick off the year.

Roger Williams opened up the contest with a three-pointer by Kaitlyn Bovee (Berlin, Conn.). Her bucket was one of five consecutive shots that she would hit to begin the game as she finished the first half with 14 points.

Desi Smith (Watertown, Wisc.) responded with a three-point play to tie the game, but a layup by Ari Renwick (Westwood, Mass.) that would spark a 14-2 Hawk run. From there, RWU would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game.

The Hawks led by double digits for most of the half, though the Mules were able to pull within six (20-26) on a jumper by Carylanne Wolfington (Hallowell, Maine) with 8:09 left. However, the Hawks maintained the advantage and went up by 13 going into the break.

In the second half, the RWU defense continued to make things difficult for Colby, as the Hawks held the Mules to only 20 points on 7-of-26 shooting in the period. A pair of free throws by Alyssa Otis (Torrington, Conn.) with 6:48 to play put RWU up 69-42, its largest advantage of the game. RWU would go on to win by 20.

Bovee finished with 23 points and five rebounds, while Renwick added 12 points and five boards. Angelica Ariola (Prospect, Conn.) finished with ten points and four assists, while Shannon Cullen (Walpole, Mass.) contributed four points, five rebounds, and a career-high six blocked shots.

Wolfington led Colby with 16 points along with five rebounds, while Smith had 13 points and six boards. Mia Diplock (Augusta, Maine) added four points, two blocks, and two steals.

Roger Williams will next travel to Suffolk while Colby (3-2) hosts Regis, both games on Tuesday.
