Blue Devils outshoot and outrebound, but fall to DII Winona, 69-62

WINONA, Minn (November 21, 2013) - UW-Stout shot a better percentage, collected more rebounds and added more assists, but were unable to overcome 28 turnovers and 14 more made free throws by Winona, falling 69-62 to the Division II Warriors.

Stout shot 44.2 percent from the field compared to Winona's 31.1 percent.  Shelby Sterba (Jr, Tony) scored 11 points and collected eight rebounds to lead the Blue Devils.  Brea Boomer (Jr, Grand Portage, Minn) added 10 points and six rebounds, while Nicki Alexander (Jr. Wabasha, Minn) added nine points and seven rebounds.

The Blue Devils out rebounded Winona 45-35.  The difference in the game turned out to be turnovers and free throws.  The Warriors turned 28 Blue Devils turnovers into 28 points and converted 27-34 free throws (79.4 percent), compared to Stout's 13-21 (61.9 percent).

Abby Busch was the high scorer for Winona and the game collecting 24 points.  Kelsey Andrist led the Warriors with six rebounds and also chipped in seven points.

Stout will travel to St. Cloud State, Saturday, Nov. 23, the return home to host their Thanksgiving Tournament, Nov. 30-Dec. 1.
