GLASSBORO (NJ) – 2013 Freedom Conference Rookie of the Year Eireann Anastasi scored a game-high 23 points as Delaware Valley College notched its first win of the year with an 81-74, non-conference victory at Rowan University.

The win improved the Aggies to 1-2 on the young season and they will have exactly two weeks to prepare for their conference opener and a home meeting with King's College on December 4. The Profs fell to 0-3.

Delaware Valley took a 7-6 lead just three minutes in and it would never relinquish the advantage. The Aggies increased it to 20-10 after sophomore guard Bridget Sobon made one of two free throws.  The Profs' Kate Matthews responded with four straight points before Delaware Valley went on an 8-2 run, including seven straight, to open its largest lead of the night at 28-16 with 8:26 remaining.  The stretch was highlighted with a Kelsey Kilpatrick trey off a pass from Anastasi.

From that point, Rowan outscored the Aggies, 21-10, to finish the first half and go into the locker room trailing by just one, 38-37.  Junior Jade Bonder started the stretch with two 3-pointers while Matthews had eight of her 14 first-half points in those final eight minutes.

The Aggies came flying out of the break as they went on a 12-1 run, including six by Brenna Coll, to get their lead back to 11 at 50-39. Rowan again clawed its way back and pulled to within three points on two occasions, including at 71-68 with 2:03 to play.  The Aggies used strong free throw shooting to put the game away as they hit all eight of its attempts from the stripe over the final two minutes. They were 15-for-18 from the foul line in the second half and 19-for-26 for the game.

Delaware Valley forced 32 turnovers in the game and turned them into 33 points, including 18 in the second half. Anastasi was 10-for-19 from the field and 3-for-3 from the foul line as she led all scorers in the contest. She also had six rebounds, five assists and two steals.  Coll was strong on defense with four blocks and four steals while also adding 19 points.  Junior guard Agatha Drozd had 14 points, six rebounds and a game-high seven assists while Kilpatrick hit double figures with 12 points off the bench.
