REDLANDS, Calif. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team fell, 63-40, to the University of Redlands on Saturday evening in Lee Fulmer Memorial Tip-Off Classic action at Redlands' Currier Gym. Following the conclusion of the classic, freshman forward Courtney Irby (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Hawks challenged the Bulldogs early, but a 10-0 Redlands run that spanned from 7:22 of the first half to 5:06 of the first half gave the Bulldogs a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the contest. Redlands entered the locker room with a 32-23 advantage, and it led by as many as 31 points in the second half en route to the win.

New Paltz (0-2) finished out the Lee Fulmer Memorial Tip-Off Classic winless, as the Hawks fell, 81-72, to Chapman University on Friday afternoon. Redlands (2-0) shared the classic title with Chapman, as the Bulldogs knocked off Lyndon State College on Friday evening. The Hawks host Vassar College next on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 8 p.m. at the Hawk Center. Redlands next visits Santa Cruz, Calif., for the UCSC Hampton Inn Classic from Friday-Saturday, Nov. 22-23. The Bulldogs kick off the event with a 3 p.m. contest against Whitman College on Friday.

The Hawks gained the momentum early, as freshman guard/forward Colleen Taylor (Blauvelt, N.Y./Tappan Zee) put New Paltz on top, 12-7, with a three-pointer at 13:57 of the first half. After a 5-0 Redlands scoring spree knotted the tally at 12-all, New Paltz received two-point baskets from sophomore guard Goldie Harrison (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) and freshman guard/forward Kit Small (Slingerlands, N.Y./Academy of the Holy Names) to go up by four. From that point forward, Redlands captured the momentum and never let go, cruising down the stretch into the intermission.

A 15-0 Redlands spurt to open the second half blew the game open, and junior guard Ashley Riefenhauser (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./Dobbs Ferry) scored the Hawks' first two points of the stanza with 12:08 to go in regulation. New Paltz did close the contest on a 10-2 run, though, with Riefenhauser's made jumper with 18 seconds left on the game clock serving as the tilt's final basket.

New Paltz shot just 25.9 percent (14-of-54) from the floor on the game and was hurt by 40 percent (8-of-20) free-throw shooting. Redlands, meanwhile, shot 39.7 percent (23-of-58) from the field and 65 percent (13-of-20) from the foul line. The Bulldogs owned a 45-41 advantage on the glass.

New Paltz's attack was paced by 10 points from junior guard Shannan Walker (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal), and Irby led all rebounders with 11.

Redlands' offense was keyed by junior forward Nicole Packard and senior guard Colleen Goeser, who each had 10 points. Senior forward Brittany Oster was just short of a double-double with eight points and eight rebounds, and she nearly had enough steals (6) to put herself in the triple-double conversation.
