More news about: Regis (Mass.)

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College freshman Amanda Hawkesworth (Abington, Mass.) posted her second-straight double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, but it was not enough, as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology defeated the Pride 61-40, in the Consolation game of the 2013 Regis College Pride Invitational on Sunday afternoon. Janaya Bradley (New Haven, Conn.) opened the game with a three from the top of the key that gave Regis an early 3-0 advantage. The Engineers responded with three-straight baskets including a pair of jumpers from Sabrina Drammis (Hilton Head, S.C.) that put MIT on top 6-3. A pair of Michaela Maguire (Revere, Mass.) freethrows and a jumper from Hawkesworth put Regis ahead 7-6, but Mari Kordell (Ijamsville, Md.) sandwiched a pair of jumpers around a Durva Bhandare (North Brunswick, N.J.) basket to spur a 7-2 run and put the guests on top 13-9.

Regis tied the game at the 8:38 mark on a Bradley layup on a fast break, and took the lead nearly a minute later as Claire Ramonas (Portland, Maine) converted on a three-point play to put Regis back in the lead at 18-17. Liana Ilutzi (East Hanover, N.J.) sunk two freethrows making it an 19-18 game, and MIT went on another run, this time an 8-2 stretch, capped off by a Sabrina Drammis layup on a nice feed from Ilutzi that forced a Regis timeout with the score 27-20.
