York, Pa. - The Pitt-Bradford women's basketball team opened its 2013-14 season on Friday night with a 58-41 loss to tournament-host York College.

Allison Osborne led the Panthers with 11 points, eight rebounds and one assist, missing a double-double by just two rebounds.  

Pitt-Bradford (0-1, 0-0) began the night playing neck-and-neck with York College, shooting 37.0 percent from the floor in the first half, compared to the Spartans' 37.1 percent.

The Panthers saw 2-of-5 fall from the three-point line while York was only able to net 1-of-9. However, Pitt-Bradford headed into halftime trailing 32-26.

York College (1-0, 0-0) opened the second half on a scoring spree as the Spartans raced out to 42-35 advantage. Kristen Haley paced the Spartans' efforts with 12 points, six rebounds and one assist.

Neither team was able to find the net from the three-point line in the second half, but Pitt-Bradford dominated the free throw line, draining 7-of-15, compared to the Spartans 4-of-15.

Defensive rebounding and turnovers ultimately led to the Panthers' defeat.

"When you don't rebound the basketball, turn the ball over and miss free throws, you have the outcome we experience tonight," said head coach Patrick Daniel. "Fortunately, we have the opportunity to get back on the court tomorrow and hopefully correct the mistakes we made tonight."

The Panthers take the hardwood at 1 p.m. tomorrow to face the loser between Waynesburg and Bridgewater in the tournament's final round.
