Woerner named Landmark Conference Senior Scholar Athlete

WASHINGTON – After earning All-America and Academic All-America honors this season, Jill Woerner added another achievement to her resume on Wednesday when she was named the Landmark Conference Women's Basketball Senior Scholar Athlete. Woerner helped to lead CUA to its second straight Landmark title and NCAA Tournament appearance this season.

Woerner was named an All-American by two outlets, including the WBCA and D3Hoops.com. In addition, she was named the Landmark Conference and ECAC Player of the Year. A native of Providence, Woerner leaves CUA as the second leading scorer all-time, with 1,544 career points. She was also a First Team All-Region and All-Conference selection as well as an ECAC All-Star.

A 5-11 guard, Woerner collected two Landmark Player of the Week awards in 2012-13, and ranked in the top 10 of seven statistical categories within the conference. She scored in double figures 27 times, including a career-high 29 points vs. Eureka.

Woerner posted four double-doubles throughout the season, which includes a season-high 12 rebounds in a win over William Paterson. One of the Cards' captains, Woerner dropped in 25 points in an overtime win against Moravian on February 16, which clinched the top seed in the conference tournament for CUA.

Woerner averaged 16.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2.4 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game. She helped lead CUA to its first national ranking and first NCAA Tournament victory this season. In addition, she was a finalist for the prestigious Jostens Trophy, presented annually to the top male and female basketball student-athletes in Division III.

Off the court, Woerner is a biomedical engineering major who carries a 3.5 grade point average. She is highly involved in a number of activities, including Society of Women Engineers and Phi Eta Sigma.

Woerner is also a multi-year member of the Dean's List and Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll, and she is part of the CUA Honors Program.

In addition to her academic achievements, Woerner has taken part in several community service initiatives, including Relay for Life, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, 8K Run for Health, the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Run, Race for the Cure, Play for Kay Day and Cheesecake Factory's Feed the Homeless Peanut Butter Drive.
