CUA finishes historic season ranked 11th in USA Today poll

WASHINGTON – CUA is ranked 11th in the final USA Today Division III Top 25 Coaches' Poll for the 2012-13 season, released on Tuesday. The Cardinals won their second straight Landmark Conference championship and earned a second straight bid to the NCAA Tournament this season, finishing with a school-record 27 wins.

CUA earned its first national ranking in school history this season, appearing in the USA Today Coaches' poll, as well as the D3Hoops.com poll for the majority of the 2012-13 campaign. In addition to their school-record 27 overall wins, the Cardinals also won 13 Landmark Conference games, the most in school annals.

CUA went 15-1 at home this season, winning a pair of Landmark Conference Tournament games to capture its second straight conference title. The Cardinals then defeated Cabrini in the 1st Round of the NCAA Tournament for their first-ever win in the tourney.

Individually, three Cards were named First Team All-Conference, including Player of the Year Jill Woerner. Woerner and Katarina Owunna earned All-Region honors, and Woerner also received ECAC Player of the Year and All-Star accolades.  

In addition, Woerner was named an All-American by the WBCA and D3Hoops.com.

CUA Head Coach Matt Donohue became the all-time winningest women's basketball coach in school history this season, while also earning the 200th win of his coaching career.

On their way to 27 victories, the Cardinals began the season by winning their first 14 games. CUA then put together a 13-game win streak en route to capturing conference title number-two.
