Women's Basketball Loses to Brooklyn College

NEW YORK, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team was defeated by Brooklyn College 63-35 in a contest played at the Doghouse on Wednesday evening.
 
The loss drops John Jay to 13-11 (10-5 CUNYAC), while Brooklyn improves to 18-5 (12-2 CUNYAC).
 
John Jay was led by Victoria Story with 12 points, while Danielle Eagan added nine. Brooklyn was led by Tiffany Thompson with game-highs of 14 points and 11 rebounds.
 
The visiting Bulldogs led from start to finish as Brooklyn scored the first seven points to start the game and led by as much as 23 in the first half.
 
After falling behind, 20-6 in the beginning stages of the contest, John Jay scampered off an 11-2 spurt to get back to within five as the Bloodhounds trailed 22-17 with 5:49 remaining.
 
But Brooklyn outscored the Bloodhounds 20-5 the rest of the stanza and led 42-22 at halftime.
 
The Bloodhounds outscored Brooklyn 7-5 to start the second half to pull to within 18 points of the lead as John Jay was down 47-29. But the Bulldogs took off with a 12-0 run to grab a 59-29 lead with 8:26 to go and Brooklyn coasted from there.
 
The Bulldogs held a 53-33 rebounding edge, including a 20-10 advantage on the offensive end and outscored the Bloodhounds 23-14 on points in the paint.
 
John Jay returns to action on Fri. Feb. 8 at the College of Staten Island at 7:30 p.m.
