Courtney Burns Leads Anchorwomen in, 73-62, LEC Tournament Loss to Southern Maine

Gorham, Maine-Senior forward Courtney Burns (Rockland, MA) scored 17 points, grabbed four rebounds and handed out three assists as fifth-seeded Rhode Island College lost to top-seeded Southern Maine, 73-62, in semifinal action of the 2013 Little East Conference Women's Basketball Tournament played at Hill Gymnasium on Friday evening.

 

Senior guard Ashley O'Dell (Lincoln, RI) also contributed 11 points, three assists and two steals for the Anchorwomen (16-11). Freshman forward Vandell Andrade (Providence, RI) had nine points and nine rebounds, while freshman guard Danielle LeBlanc (Warwick, RI) pitched in with eight points and four assists.

 

Southern Maine (26-1) advances to face third-seeded UMass Dartmouth in the Championship Game tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. Senior forward Haley Jordan (Falmouth, ME) led the way with a game-high 21 points to go along with four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Senior guard Nicole Garland (Portland, ME) posted 19 points, four boards, three assists and two steals. Sophomore forward Rebecca Knight (Alfred, ME) registered 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

 

RIC shot 40 percent (22-for-55) from the field, 28 percent (7-for-25) from downtown and made all 11 of its free throw attempts. The Huskies shot 47 percent (23-for-49) from the field, 46 percent (6-for-13) from three-point range and made 88 percent (21-for-24) from the charity stripe. The hosts held the advantage in rebounding, 31-27.
