Trine Takes Out Alvernia In Season-Opener Ebersole Opens Career With Game-High 17

Buffalo, N.Y. (Nov. 16, 2012) - Trine University (1-0) scored the final three points of the game and held Alvernia University (0-1) wihtout a bucket over the last 3:14 in a 64-58 win Friday evening in the opening game of the Betty Abgott Invitational hosted by Buffalo State.

The Crusaders will face Alfred University in the consolation game at noon on Saturday.  Buffalo State and Trine will meet in the championship game at 2:00 p.m.  Buffalo State defeated Alfred 70-48 in game two on Friday.

In the opener Alvernia shot 5-for-26 from the 3-point arc, the most attempts for the Crusaders since putting up 29 in an 81-59 win over Immaculata in February of 2007.  FreshmanChelsea Ebersole (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) hit 5-of-15 from the arc and finished with a game-high 17 points.  Brittany Young (Columbus, N.J./North Burlington) scored 16 points and pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds.

The first half featured a back and forth affair with seven ties, the last at 27-all with 1:01 left in the half.  Trine then scored the final two buckets of the half to take a 31-27 lead into the break.

Trine held onto the lead for the entire second half pushing it to as many as eight points, 54-46 with 8:28 to play.

The Crusaders got a 3 from Ebersole and a fast break bucket from Young during a 9-4 run that cut the gap to three points with five minutes to play.  The gap was still three points with three minutes to go, but the Crusaders went 0-for-4 with a turnover in their final four possessions.

After Saturday's final the Crusaders return home and will play at Immaculata on Tuesday.
