Reading, PA (January 23, 2013) - On a freezing winter night at the Alvernia University Physical Education Center, the Alvernia University women's basketball team (7-10, 4-7) came out cold against Commonwealth Conference opponent the Lycoming Warriors (5-12, 5-6) going scoreless for more than eight minutes in a 64-44 loss.

The Warriors scored the first 12 points of the game while the Crusaders missed their first six shots from the floor and finally got on the board when freshman Chelsea Ebersole(Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) hit a 3 at 11:47.  Alvernia scored nine of next 11 points after falling behind 12-0, but suffered another five minutes scoreless streak as the Warriors scored eight straight for a 22-9 lead with five minutes left in the half.  The lead hit 16 points, 28-12 with 3:03 on the clock before the Crusaders trimmed four off the lead with two 3s from Ebersole around a layup from Julia Antonelli.  Ebersole had 12 of the Crusaders first 18 points hitting 4-of-10 3s in the opening half.

Lycoming enjoyed a 13-point lead at the break, 34-21, then opened the second half with the first six points for a 40-21 lead.  The Crusaders again struggled to find the range missing their first seven shots of the half before Stevie Fortna (Lebanon, Pa./Lebanon Catholic) found the range from the left corner at 13:49.  Jess Poole (Hackettstown, N.J./West Morris Central) scored to cut the gap to 14 points, but Lycoming took control with a 15-4 run over the next five minutes.

Ebersole was the high scorer for the Crusaders with 12 points on the four 3s.  She now has 65 on the season, two shy of Alvernia's single season record set by Hall of Famer Theresa Bray in 1997-98.  Lycoming had three players reach double figures led by 14 from Shanley Harlacker.

Alvernia continues the conference schedule at Stevenson on Saturday.
