SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (February 15, 2013) – Junior forward Hannah Senftleber may have scored the six most important points of the season for the Vassar College women's basketball team. Her play rescued the Brewers from a 56-55 deficit with 2:47 to play against Skidmore College and into a 61-57 lead that turned into a 64-57 victory on Friday night in a crucial Liberty League game.

The victory, Vassar's seventh straight (all in league play), pushed the Brewers to 20-4 and 12-4 in the league. Vassar's victory, coupled by losses by St. Lawrence and Skidmore, puts Vassar in sole possession of first place in league standings. The Brewers next face Union on Saturday at 2:00 pm. Skidmore (12-12, 10-5) travels to RPI on Saturday.

The Brewers trailed Skidmore 56-55 with 2:47 to play. The Thoroughbreds had fought back from a 53-47 deficit with 6:58 to play to take a one point lead on a jumper by Molly McLaughlin.

"It was a great team effort," said Senftleber. "We held the rope to the very end and never gave up. Even when the momentum swung against us, we stuck together and got stops when we needed them."

In a game marked by runs, there were ten ties and 12 lead changes. The game was evenly balanced in terms of shooting percentage, but the Thoroughbreds held advantages in bench points (35-5) and inside buckets (36-24), but the game came down to Vassar's ability to make big plays down the stretch.

Case in point: Skidmore led 45-42 at the 11:45 mark, only to see the Brewers go on an 11-2 run over the next 4:47 to surge ahead 53-47. In that spurt, sophomore forward Colleen O'Connell and freshman guard Caitlin Drakeley doing most of the offensive damage. Drakeley had five points (including a big 3-pointer) and O'Connell had a big bucket in the run.

In the first half, Vassar went on a 13-6 run over the final 5:06 of the first half to swing a 22-19 deficit into a 32-28 halftime lead. Senftleber had five straight points on an inside bucket and a 3-pointer. She had 10 points at the half and 18 for the game. O'Connell had 14 points and junior guard Cydni Matsuoka chipped in 12 points in a very steady game.

Skidmore, which owned a 28-22 first half lead, on a layup by Logan Frederick, was paced by 21 points from forward Angela Botiba, who shot 10 of 13 for the game.
