Buffalo State Stifles Brockport, 55-44

BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (13-11/9-8) stayed in the middle of the SUNYAC playoff race with a dominant defensive effort in a 55-44 victory over visiting Brockport (7-17/4-13) tonight at the Sports Arena.

Ashley Wallace (Lockport/Starpoint) was the lone Bengal scorer in double-figures with 13 points. Bianca Smiley (Amherst/Sweet Home) added eight points and 11 rebounds, and Mariah Norris (Endicott/Endicott) had seven points, six boards and three assists.

Brockport led for much of the opening half, but Buffalo State used a late 9-0 run to take a 27-20 lead into the intermission.  The Bengals never relinquished the lead in the second half.

Buffalo State forced 23 Brockport turnovers and limited the Golden Eagles to just 29-percent shooting from the field.  The Bengals shot 39-percent, but were just 1 for 13 from 3-point range.  Brockport stayed in the game hitting 6 of 13 from beyond the arc.

Buffalo State will close out the regular season tomorrow at Geneseo at 6 p.m.  The Bengals can secure a playoff berth with a victory tomorrow, or a loss by New Paltz against Oswego, or a loss by Cortland against Potsdam.
