Worcester, MA --- Rosa Drummond (Rye, NH) earned her third double-double of the year picking up 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead visiting Smith past WPI 76-55 in  Wednesday night's NEWMAC match-up in Harrington Auditorium.

With the win, Smith, ranked seventh in the latest NCAA Division III New England rankings improves to 21-3 overall and 15-2 in conference and has secured the number two seed in next week's NEWAMC Tournament.  WPI drops to 13-10 on the year and 9-8 in NEWMAC action.

Despite shooting 50% (6-12) from three-point range and 87.5% (7-8) from the free-throw line, WPI was unable to overcome Smith's relentless pressure.  The Pioneers forced 29 WPI turnovers and converted them into 28 points.  Smith nabbed 19 steals on the night and shot 42.3% (33-78) from the field.  Paulina Solis (Santa Ana, CA) chipped in 13 points and swiped six steals, while Marissa Munoz-Ruiz (Fairfield, CA) provided a spark off the bench doling out eight assists. Devon Quattrocchi (Brewster, NY) and Sydney Parkmond (Waterbury, CT) combined for 23 points and nine rebounds.

WPI kept the game tight throughout the first half playing within a six point window, while the lead changed hands nine times.  Kelly Morgan (Brookline, NH) scored the first bucket of the game and led the Engineers with seven first-half points.  With 3:23 to go in the first stanza, a Drummond jumper sparked a 14-0 run that put Smith up 40-25 heading into the break, a gap the Crimson and Gray were unable to recover from.

Morgan led the WPI charge with a game-high 17 points and was the only Engineer in double digits.  In the senior's last home game, Cindy Chelius (Northfield, NJ) added eight points including 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.  Dani Davis (East Granby, CT) scored five points and pulled down four rebounds.  Rachel Pineda (Shrewsbury, MA) and Yasmeen Luna (North Providence, RI) combined for eight points.  Sienna Mamayek (Melrose, MA) hauled in a team-high five boards for the Engineers.

Smith will match up with Wellesley on Saturday, February 16th while WPI returns to action the same day when they face off against NEWMAC foe Coast Guard at 2pm in Connecticut.  A win over the Bears would secure a home game for Engineers in next week's NEWMAC Tournament.
