Women's Hoops Romps NYU-Poly with 72-56 Wire-to-Wire Victory

BROOKLYN, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) -The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team cruised past the NYU-Poly Fighting Jays to a 72-56 Skyline Conference win Sunday afternoon from Jacobs Gymnasium.  Old Westbury (14-9) improves to 8-4 in conference action while NYU-Poly (6-16) fell to 3-8.

DeAndra Scott sank a jumper to break the scoring ice 48 seconds into play and Shelby Bruns answered for NYU-Poly with a jumper of her own to knot the game at 2-all. From there, Antoinette Jolly hit the go ahead bucket with 18:31 remaining in the opening half to spark a 19-6 run over the next 9:55 of play.  Old Westbury took a 30-21 lead into the break.

NYU-Poly fell behind by double-digits on seven different occasions in the second-half.  The Jays used an 8-2 scoring spree to slice the deficit to six points with 7:20 left on the clock.  Old Westbury secured the victory by creating separation down the stretch with a key 18-6 run from 7:14 to: 44 to grab an 18 point lead, the largest of the game. 

DeAndra Scott poured in 13 points to go with three steals to lead Old Westbury.  Scott also grabbed five rebounds, ending her seven game double-double streak.  Abigail Williams scored a season-best 11 points while Antoinette Jolly and Clarissa Gallagher followed with 10 points each. Jolly finished with eight assists, six steals and six rebounds.  Jolly is averaging 5.25 steals over the last eight games.  Chloe Mellon and Raven Price both pulled down seven boards off the bench.

NYU-Poly registered three players in double-digit scoring as Catherine Thompson's 15 points on 11-of-12 shooting from the free-throw line led all scorers.  Alyssa D'Apice followed with 14 points and three steals and Shelby Bruns added 10 points and four steals. 

Old Westbury shot 45.9 percent from the field (28-61), 40 percent from three-point range (4-10) and 70.6 percent from the free-throw line (12-17).  NYU-Poly converted 31.7 percent from the floor (20-63), 30 percent from beyond the arc (3-10) and 72.2 percent from the charity stripe (13-18).  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 55-29, and scored 10 points off 16 offensive rebounds.  Old Westbury also scored 17 points off 18 NYU-Poly turnovers.

GOLDEN EAGLES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS:  Old Westbury returns to action on Tuesday (Feb. 12) for their final home game of the schedule when the St. Joseph's-L.I. Golden Eagles travel to the Clark Athletic Center.  Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m. in Old Westbury, New York.
