Kitchen Scores 13 to Lead No. 8 Thomas More to a 65-56 Road Win at Westminster

(NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.) - Senior guard Katie Kitchen (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) scored a team-high 13 points to lead the eighth-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team to a 65-56 win over Westminster College tonight (Wednesday, February 6, 2013) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Buzz Ridl Gymnasium in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Saints improve to 21-1 overall and remain undefeated in the PAC at 15-0 and with the loss, the Titans fall to 10-12 overall and 8-7 in the PAC.

Westminster jumped out to an early 10-3 lead when Katie Hughes made a lay-up with 17:07 to play in the first half.  Thomas More answered with a 23-7 run capped by a jumper by sophomore guard Sydni Wainscott (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) to take a 26-17 lead with 4:17 to play in the opening half.  The Titans used a 4-2 run to cut the lead to 28-21 with 1:59 to play in the half when Gabby Holko made two free-throws.  The Saints closed out the half on a 3-0 run to take a 31-21 lead at intermission when sophomore guard Stephanie Krusling (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) made a lay-up with 47-seconds to play in the half.

Thomas More opened the second half on a 12-2 run to extend the lead to 43-53 with 16:00 to play in the game when senior guard Jill Brunsman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) made a jumper.  Westminster answered with a 17-3 run capped by a Jenna Grandy three-pointer with 9:20 to play in the game to cut the lead to 46-40.  The Saints responded with a 9-1 run to increase the lead to 55-41 with 6:35 to play in the game when senior guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) made a lay-up.  The Titans' Jenn Cantella made a lay-up with 11-seconds to play in the game to cap a 15-8 run to cut the lead to 63-56.  Kitchen made a lay-up with two-seconds to play in the game for the final margin of victory of 65-56.

Kitchen led four Saints in double-figure scoring as junior forward Moriah Corey (Louisville, Ky./Butler) and sophomore forward Jenny Burgoyne (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) each had 12 points and Brunsman finished with 11 points.  Corey recorded her second double-double of the season as she led the team on the boards with 12 rebounds.  Long and Wainscott led the team in steals with four each, while junior guard Devin Beasley (Burlington, Ky./Conner) led the team in assists with four.

Thomas More returns to action on Saturday (February 9) when it hosts Thiel College on Senior Day at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.  Thomas More will honor Brunsman, Kitchen and Long prior to the 1 p.m. tip-off.
