La Roche's Cygan Nets 1000 Point in Win Over Franciscan

PITTSBURGH, PA – For the second consecutive game a Lady Redhawk has scored her 1000th career point. Casie Cygan joined the 1000 point club when she hit a three-pointer at the eight minute mark of the first half in La Roche's (19-2, 14-1) 74-44 win over Franciscan (4-19, 3-13) on Wednesday night. The win is their seventh straight and clinches one of the top three seeds in the AMCC Conference Tournament.

The Lady Redhawks jumped out to a 22-2 lead and took a 38-19 advantage into halftime. Cygan paced La Roche with 19 first half points and LaShauna Brothers picked up 5 steals.  La Roche held Franciscan to just 32% (9 for 28) from the field in the second half.

Cygan led the Lady Redhawks with 22 points in her historic game and went 7 for 7 from the charity stripe.

"We're really excited for Casie", said teammate Leslie McPherson. "She's one of the hardest workers on our team and she deserves everything she gets."

Cygan recorded 8 rebounds and 4 assists to go along with her 22 points. Jessica Pitts finished with 16 points on 8 of 14 shooting and added 9 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals. Amanda Garland scored 11 points and Breanna Gibbs grabbed 7 boards. Brothers chipped in 5 steals in the win.

The Lady Redhawks shot a season-high 81% (17 of 21) from the free throw line and assisted on 18 of 27 field goals. La Roche also outscored Franciscan 40-22 in the paint, 14-0 on the fastbreak, and 18-8 off of turnovers.

La Roche women's basketball will try to wrap up home court in the AMCC Conference Tournament when they host Penn State Behrend on Saturday at 2:00PM. The Lady Redhawks fell to Penn State Behrend 72-56 on January 12.
