FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's basketball team (14-6, 8-6 SUNYAC) held a seven-point lead with less than five minutes to play, but Fredonia (11-8, 6-7) closed out the game with on a 16-2 run to hand the Lakers a 65-58 road loss Saturday afternoon.
 
The Lakers hit their stride early in the first half, dominating the Blue Devils on the offensive end.  The visitors stormed out of the gates to take an 11-4 lead on the strength of three consecutive baskets from downtown.  Kari Kipper (Sr., Loudonville, N.Y.) had the hot hand early when she contributed eight of the team's first 11 points, including two treys.  The lead ballooned to 15 when Oswego State rallied off seven consecutive points to hold a 27-12 advantage with 8:28 left in the half. 
 
The Lakers scored 16 points off ten turnovers in the half and went into the locker room leading Fredonia, 37-29.
 
The Blue Devils controlled the tempo when the second stanza got underway, scoring the half's first five points to cut away at the Laker lead.  Fredonia continued to pour it on as it outscored Oswego State, 14-2, over the next six minutes to take the lead 47-44.  A Jenn Robbins (Jr., Geneva, N.Y.) trey temporarily tied the game at 47. Minutes later, the Lakers looked to retake the lead when Meagan Stover (Sr., Lake George, N.Y.) drained a three-pointer to ignite a 9-0 run, stretching the lead to seven with 4:54 remaining in the contest.
 
However, after being held scoreless for nearly five and a half minutes, Fredonia exploded with back-to-back three pointers from Becky Hebert and Jaimie Warren en route to a 14-0 lead, that would give the home team the lead and the victory.
 
Stover had a team-high 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting, while Lauren Nunziato (Jr., West Sand Lake, N.Y.) added 13. Hebert had a game-high 28 including three from beyond the arc.       

Oswego State returns to action Tuesday when it hosts New Paltz at 6 p.m. on Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night.
