LaGRANGE, Ga. -- For the first time since 2010, five different Christopher Newport players finished in double figures as the Captains (17-2, 10-2) surged past LaGrange College (12-7, 7-5) on Saturday afternoon, 91-74. A career-best performance from sophomore Camry Green led the way, as she tied her scoring mark with 18 points and hauled in a record 18 rebounds.

For the first time since December 4, 2010, when CNU accomplished the feat against Peace College, the Captains saw five different players score 10+ points. After Green's team-leading 18, CNU got 16 points each from juniors Nicole Mitchell, Tia Perry and freshman Brandi Holland, and 14 more from senior Kelly Halverson. Mitchell added 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double, joining Green.

The game was tightly contests in the first half, despite the Captains holding the advantage for most of the frame. A three-pointer from Heather Miller put LaGrange ahead one, 12-11, less than five minutes into the game, but it would prove to be the home team's final lead of the game. Green tied it up with a free-throw and rookie Jordan Miller put CNU up with a stick-back lay-in for a 14-12 lead. The lead would only get to eight in the first half as the Panthers hung on, but CNU took a six-point advantage into the locker room, 40-34.

Then, out of the break, the Captains put some pressure on the gas. An 18-5 run to start the second half gave Christopher Newport a big cushion. The Captains led 58-39 with 14:34 showing on the clock after a three-pointer by Holland punctuated the big run. The lead would not dip below 16 the rest of the way as CNU was scorching in the second half, hitting at a 63.3% clip from the field (19-30).

CNU finished 35-of-71 from the floor, for a 49.3% shooting effort, including an 8-for-17 performance from long range. Mitchell led the attack, missing just two shots in an impressive 7-for-9 performance that included four blocks to go with her double-double points and rebounds.

The Captains outrebounded LaGrange by 13, with a 49-36 advantage on the class that included 18 offensive boards. Green had 11 offensive rebounds alone for CNU, helping the Captains score 22 second-chance points.

LaGrange had three players finish in double figures, with Miller scoring a team-high 16 points, followed by 13 from Katie Covington and 11 from Madison McDonald. As a team, the Panthers hit 37.3% of their shots (25-67).

CNU will now travel to Demorest, Georgia for its final road regular season game of the season, taking on Piedmont College Sunday at 2:00 pm. The Captains will close the regular season with five straight home games.
