Wheaton (Ill.) women's basketball team tops Augustana 82-45

Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton Thunder women's basketball team earned an 82-45 victory against Augustana College (6-14/1-8 CCIW) on Wednesday night in Wheaton's King Arena. The Thunder improves to 16-4 overall and 6-3 in the CCIW  and will travel to Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday night for a 5 PM tipoff against the defending National Champion Titans.

Wheaton never trailed in tonight's win against Augustana. The Thunder led28-22 with 5:20 left in the first half when Wheaton put together a 14-2 run to close out the opening half that allowed the hosts to hold a 42-24 lead at halftime. Wheaton opened the second half with a 15-4 scoring edge over the Vikings that propelled the hosts to a 57-28 lead with 11:00 remaining in regulation. The largest lead of the game for the hosts was a 39-point bulge that occurred twice in the final two minutes of regulation.

Wheaton senior Breanna Bohlen led all scorers with 15 points, as she made three three-pointers on the night. Freshman Hannah Considine scored 12 points, with six rebounds for the hosts. Lauren Graham added 12 points off the Wheaton bench. Ellie Zeller scored nine points with eight rebounds, including six offensive boards. Maris Hovee grabbed seven rebounds, with seven assists and three blocked shots.

Thunder senior Brooke Olson scored 12 points, with a pair of three-pointers. Olson's first three-pointer of the game allowed her to reach the 1,000-point plateau for her career, becoming the 17th women's basketball player in school history to reach the milestone. Her second three-pointer was the 137th of her career and moved her into fifth place on the program's all-time three-pointers list.

Wheaton shot 45.5% (30-66) from the field, with 47.6% (10-21) from three-point range and 85.7% (12-14) at the free throw line. Augustana posted a 32.2% (19-59) field goal percentage, with 25% (4-16) from three-point range and 100% (3-3) at the charity stripe. Wheaton out-rebounded the Vikings 47-29, with a 19-11 edge on the offensive glass.

Amy Hicks led Augustana with nine points and five rebounds. Maddie Kerr scored eight points and Kayla Boers registered six points, with six rebounds.
