Big Blue Women Knock Off Elmhurst

          The Millikin women's basketball team snapped its nine game losing streak defeating Elmhurst College 72-53 on Jan. 30 in the Griswold Center in Decatur, Ill.  The Big Blue earned its first CCIW win and is now 6-13, 1-8 while Elmhurst falls to 9-11, 3-6.

          Millikin finally found its shooting touch hitting on 52 percent from the field including 64 percent in the second half.  Millikin turned up the defensive pressure in the second half forcing the Bluejays into 17 second half turnovers (27 overall) providing the Big Blue several easy baskets on the offensive end.  Millikin out rebounded Elmhurst 31-28.  Millikin led 30-27 and then outscored Elmhurst 42-26 in the final half.  Elmhurst shot 40 percent from the field on the game.

          Jasmine Johnson led the Big Blue in scoring and rebounding with 16 points and seven rebounds along with two blocks and three steals.  Nikki Tipsword scored 12 points and Moli Copple added 10.  Holly Haskins tied Johnson for the team rebounding lead with seven broads and she scored nine points.

          Fiona McMahon led the Bluejays with 19 points and six rebounds.  McMahon scored 13 points in the first half, but Millikin got her in foul trouble in the second half and limited her time on the court.  Karen Senette had 12 points for the Bluejays.

          Millikin will host North Park on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. for its annual Pink Game.
