BOSTON -- The frontcourt tandem of Beth Suggs and Kelly Coleman accounted for 25 points and 15 rebounds as the University of New England women's basketball team ran its win streak to eight with a 59-43 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in a Commonwealth Coast Conference game played Wednesday (Jan. 23) evening at Tansey Gymnasium.

Winners of seven straight versus Wentworth and 18-2 all-time, the Nor'easters improve to 13-4 and remain atop the CCC standings with a 10-0 mark. The Leopards now stand at 7-10 overall, 2-8 in conference play.

Suggs scored a game-high 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds to fall one carom shy of her sixth consecutive double-double. She was 4-for-7 from the floor and 5-for-6 from the free throw line. The reigning CCC Player of the Week, Coleman tallied 12 points to go with six boards.

Reserve forward Kendra Dawless scored a career-high eight points to go with five rebounds for the Nor'easters, while Sadie DiPierro canned three 3-pointers to finish with nine points.

For Wentworth, Jordan Biggar tallied 12 points off the bench, and Ashley Conway added nine. Kendra Kerr had five of her game-high 11 rebounds on the offensive glass.

Trailing 12-10 midway thru the first half, UNE closed the frame with an 18-10 run to take a 28-20 advantage into the locker room. DiPierro knocked down a pair of treys during the surge. Dawless had all eight of her points in the half, as the Nor'easters forced 16 Wentworth turnovers to overcome 11 miscues of their own.

Big Blue was able to maintain an advantage of seven points or more the entire second half. UNE limited the Leopards to 27.3 percent (6 of 22) shooting from the floor in the frame, which ended with neither team scoring in the final 3:04.

UNE will look to keep its perfect conference record intact when defending CCC champion Salve Regina University comes to Biddeford Saturday for a 1 p.m. clash. The Nor'easters handed the Seahawks a 67-52 defeat back on Dec. 1.
