FREDERICK, Md.--Senior Dyanna Prater of the Hood College women's basketball team (4-14, 2-9 Commonwealth) became the ninth player in program history to score 1,000 points in her career, but the Blazers fell to the Stevenson University Mustangs (6-10, 3-8 Commonwealth), 52-42, in a Commonwealth Conference game Wednesday night at BB&T Arena.

Prater, who entered the game needing just seven points to reach the 1000-point mark, scored four points in the opening half on a bucket and a pair of free throws. Then in the second half with 11:33 to go, Prater drove the lane, got her layup to go and drew a foul. She calmly knocked down the ensuing free throw for her elusive 1,000th point. At that point the Blazers trailed 36-26.

Later in the half, Hood had cut the lead to seven on a layup by Rachel Wiley to make it 45-38 with 5:07 to play. Hood was unable to get a stop at the other end however as Sam Murray countered with a layup of her own. After missing two front ends of one-and-one opportunities, the Blazers found themselves in a double-figure hole once again and the Mustangs went on to win by 10 and earn a split in the season series.

Prater finished with nine points while Shakara Head tallied a team-high 13 points and hauled in 10 rebounds for her third collegiate double-double. Rachel Kessler chipped in eight points and three steals while Wiley and Emily Maerz each corraled seven boards.

Murray led all scorers with 17 points and 11 boards while Stephanie Martinez had 13.

Hood wraps up its three-game homestand Saturday when it hosts Arcadia University. The Commonwealth matchup tips at 1 p.m.
