Second Half Start Leads CMS to Win

PASADENA, CA – A big scoring start to the second half aided in the ClaremontMuddScripps women's basketball team to a 63-40 win over Caltech on Saturday night.

The game started out in the Athenas favor as they jumped out to a 13-2 edge just before the midway point of the first stanza. Caltech brought that deficit down by scoring five unanswered points during a 90 seconds stretch.

With ClaremontMuddScripps holding a 13-8 lead at the 8:19 mark of the frame, the visitors kept their lead between seven and 13 points the rest of the half. The Athenas went into the locker room with a 28-19 edge.

A strong start to the second half for the visitors helped put the game out of reach for the Beavers. The Athenas started the second stanza on a 28-6 scoring run in building a 56-25 lead with just over eight minutes left in the game. ClaremontMuddScripps nailed 61.9 percent (13-of-21) of their shots in the second half.

Stephanie Wong posted a Caltech best 10-point evening while Kristin Anderson came off the bench to grab 10 rebounds for the home squad. Caltech held a plus-10 rebounding advantage.

The Athenas were led by Aria Krumwiede's 16-point outburst.
