Ranquist paces women’s hoops with 14 points in loss at Maine Maritime

CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime overcame an early deficit to knock off the University of Maine at Farmington, 48-38, in a North Atlantic Conference women's basketball game Saturday. The win avenged a 56-43 loss to the Beavers 11 days ago and improved the Mariners to 5-5 NAC, 7-8 overall. UMF fell to 5-5, 5-10 NAC.

Courtney Dufour scored a team-high nine points for MMA and Bekah Campbell and Hanna Lyons each added eight. Leah Jackson grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds. 

Lindsay Ranquist (Owls Head, Maine/Medomak Valley) netted a game-high 14 points for UMF and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Rachel Clement (Gray, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) tallied seven points. 

Farmington took a 7-0 lead early in the game, with four point from Ranguist and three by Kelsey Graffam (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth), with 16:58 left in the opening half. A pair of Kenni Norton (Strong, Maine/Mt. Abram) free throws put the Beavers ahead 14-6  with 8:36 left before the Mariners went on a 9-1 run to even the game at 15-15 with 4:40 remaining. Dufour drained a three in the run and Campbell, Mary Badeen and Jillian Perron each netted a bucket. A Lyons layup and Dufour three gave MMA a 20-15 lead with 2:41 left before the break. Ranguist cut into the Mariners lead, 20-17, with a jumper just before the half. 

After Clement put the Beavers within three, 22-19, early in the second half the Mariners went on a 13-2 scoring run and held 37-21 advantage with 10:02 left in the game. Five different players scored in the run for Maine Maritime, led by Badeen and Lyons who each scored four points, Dufour added three and Perron and Jackson scored two each. The Mariners took their largest lead, 46-30, on a pair of Kari Jones free throws and never saw their lead dip below 10 the rest of the game.

UMaine-Farmington returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 22, when it face Colby College in Waterville.
