Touhey Pours in Career-High 26 Points as Cortland Women Defeat Brockport

ROCKPORT, N.Y. – Junior Megan Touhey scored a career-high 26 points and freshman Caysen Cohen added 16 points as Cortland defeated host Brockport, 71-53, in a SUNYAC contest. The Red Dragons evened their league record at 4-4 and are 6-8 overall. Brockport drops to 5-11 overall and 2-7 in the conference.

Touhey made 10-of-15 shots from the field overall and 4-of-7 three-pointers. She also hauled in five rebounds. Cohen hit 7-of-10 shots, 2-of-3 from the arc, and added three assists and four rebounds.

Also for Cortland, sophomore Erin Wolstenholme recorded eight points and nine rebounds and sophomore Brittany Rando scored nine points and dished out three assists. Sophomore Lindsey Minor led the team with four assists.

Phoebe Byrnes was Brockport's lone double-figure scorer with 18 points. She made 4-of-7 three-pointers and 6-of-10 shots overall. Cecilia Sigrist led the squad with seven rebounds.

Cortland shot 44 percent from the field and made nine three-pointers in 30 attempts. Brockport finished at 39 percent from the field.

Cortland trailed 29-26 after a Byrnes three-pointer with 4:01 left in the first half, but completed the period on a 12-2 run to lead 38-31 at halftime. Touhey scored 16 points and Byrnes had 15 points in the opening half.

The Red Dragons quickly extended their lead to 26 points with a 21-2 streak in the first nine minutes of the second half. Cortland's largest lead of the game was 67-37 after two Minor free throws with 8:46 left. The Golden Eagles finished the game on a 12-2 run to end the contest.

Cortland travels to Oneonta on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
