NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) has announced that Western New England's Chelsea Vujs is the organization's rookie of the week, for the period ending Sunday. The freshman guard/forward out of Berlin (Conn.) High School is the first Golden Bears player this season to receive this regional honor.
Vujs averaged 12 points and 6.7 rebounds--both second on the team--during a 2-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference week for the Golden Bears. In a 59-46 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology on Tuesday, she scored 12 points with six rebounds and three assists; followed by a double-double with 11 points, 10 boards and three blocked shots in Thursday's 70-48 loss at Salve Regina. She ended the week with a 13-point performance in a 60-50 road win Saturday against Eastern Nazarene, shooting 6-for-12 from the field.
For the season, Vujs tops the CCC in field goal percentage (.479; 58-121), is second on the team in scoring (9.4 ppg) and steals (24) and ranks fifth in conference total rebounds (111).
