Tommies' win streak ends at 11 with road defeat

Host St. Benedict used a 6-2 game-closing run to post a 66-62 win over No. 4-ranked St. Thomas in Saturday's MIAC women's basketball game in St. Joseph.

The Tommies (11-2 overall, 9-1 MIAC) had an 11-game season win streak and a 33-game victory string against conference opponents end.

The Tommies moved back ito a tie for the conference lead with Gustavus, which defeated St. Catherine. Third-place Concordia lost at home in overtime to Hamline to fall one game back.

The Blazers (9-4 overall, 7-3 MIAC) had four players score in double figures, led by Morgan Dale's 14. CSB had a 39-30 rebounding edge and outscored the Tommies 18-6 from 3-point range. UST made just 2-of-9 threes.

Jenna Dockter had 14 points and seven rebounds to lead St. Thomas, which trailed 31-24 at halftime after a 7-0 Blazer run to end the half.

Dockter made two free throws with 3:11 to play to tie the game 60-60. But the Toms made two turnovers and scored on just one possession as the Blazers made 4-of-6 free throws down the stretch to hold on.

The Tommies play at Macalester on Wednesday night.
