Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's women's basketball team defeated visiting rival Mary Washington 58-43 in Capital Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night.  Senior captain Katelyn Fischer scored her 1,000th career point as the Saints improve to 11-3 overall and 3-0 in CAC play to claim sole possession of first place in the league standings.

Fischer (Reisterstown, Md. / Seton Keough HS) led all scorers with 22 points to go with six rebounds and five assists.  She shot 9-for-14 from the field including a sizzling 4-for-5 from three-point range.

Fellow senior Tynisha Parks (Lorton, Va. / Hayfield SS) added 20 points along with eight rebounds, four assists and four steals.  Dominique Dickens (Virginia Beach, Va. / Tallwood HS) chipped in a game-high four steals and Miranda Krott (Temple, Pa. / Oley Valley HS) added eight boards in the win.

Needing just seven points coming into the game to reach the milestone, Fischer reached it as she knocked home a three-pointer at the 6:30 mark in the first half to give the Saints a 17-12 lead as part of a 9-2 run.  She would add another trifecta with 2:12 remaining in the frame to give MU a nine-point advantage before taking a 26-18 lead into halftime.

Coming out of halftime, the Saints quickly pushed their lead to double-digits on a Parks layup and held the Eagles (9-5, 2-1 CAC) to at least a two possession deficit the rest of the way.  Fischer's three-pointer with 11 minutes remaining then gave the Saints a 44-31 lead they wouldn't let fall under 11 the remainder of the game.

Sam Partonen and Amanda Witmer led Mary Washington with 11 points each.

Marymount returns to the hardwood on Saturday as it travels to face 19th-ranked York (Pa.) in CAC action.
