(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Senior guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) scored 17 of her 20 points in the first half to lead the 11th-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team to an 85-38 win over Westminster College tonight (Wednesday, January 9, 2013) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center.
With the win, the Saints improve to 13-1 overall and remain undefeated in the PAC at 7-0. With the loss, the Titans fall to 5-9 overall and 3-4 in the PAC.
Thomas More took an early 12-2 lead with 16:06 to play in the first half when senior guard Jill Brunsman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) made a three-pointer. Westminster answered with an 11-5 run capped by a Gabby Holko lay-up to cut the lead to 17-13 with 7:49 to play in the half. The Saints responded with a 20-0 run to extend the lead to 37-13 with 1:25 to play in the opening half when Long made a lay-up. Both team exchanged baskets over the final minute of play in the half as Thomas More took a 42-19 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.
The Saints opened the second half on a 28-5 run to increase the lead to 70-24 when junior guard Devin Beasley (Burlington, Ky./Conner) made three free-throws with 11:33 to play in the game. Westminster used an 11-2 run capped by an Allison Borts lay-up with 7:23 to play in the game to cut the lead to 72-35. Thomas More answered with a 13-2 run to take its biggest lead of the game at 85-37 with 2:17 to play in the game when sophomore guard Stephanie Krusling (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) converted an old fashion three-point play. Westminster made a free-throw down the stretch as the Saints won the game 85-38.
Long led three Saints in double-figure scoring as sophomore guard Sydni Wainscott (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) had 12 points, Beasley finished with 121 points and junior guard Katie Kitchen (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) had 10 points. Sophomore forward Jenny Burgoyne (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) and junior forward Moriah Corey (Louisville, Ky./Butler) led the team on the boards as they each had six rebounds, while Long lead the team in steals with three. Kitchen, Long and freshman guard Olivia Huber (Woodlawn, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) led the team in assists with four each.
Thomas More returns to action on Saturday (January 12) when it hosts Saint Vincent College at 1 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center.
