LEXINGTON, Ky. – Transylvania received career scoring nights from Nicole Coffman and Katelyn Smith and rolled to a 95-66 win over Hanover Wednesday in Heartland Conference women's basketball play at the Beck Center.
 
The Pioneers are 10-4 overall and 6-1 in HCAC play while the Panthers are 10-4, 4-3 HCAC. Transy entered play Wednesday tied with Defiance for the HCAC lead.
 
Smith, who had a career-high 23 points in Transy's win over Defiance last Saturday, netted 26 against the Panthers while Coffman, whose previous high was 29, eclipsed that with 30. The duo combined to hit 19 of 30 shots and 14 of 15 free throws.
 
Transy shot nearly 52 percent from the field for the game while holding Hanover, the preseason HCAC favorites, to 35 percent, including 28 percent in the first half when the Pioneers took charge.
 
Madisen Webb added 13 points and Alex McKenzie 10 as the Pioneers topped their previous scoring high of 77 points. Transy came into the contest averaging 66 points a game. Transy led by as many as 29 points in the late going.
 
Alicia Hopkins had 18 points to lead Hanover.
 
Transy outscored Hanover in the paint, 34-16, and had an edge in second-chance points, 15-3, largely due to a 43-30 advantage on the boards.
 
The Pioneers spotted the Panthers an 8-0 lead to open the game, only to mount an 11-0 run to grab an 11-8 lead. Transy took its first double digit lead at 34-23 on a tip-in by McKenzie at the 6:12 mark and increased its lead to as many as 20, a 48-28 advantage at halftime.
 
Transy sizzled from the field in the first half, canning 15 of 32 shots for 47 percent, while holding Hanover to just eight of 28 (28.6 percent) Included in that total was a three for 11 effort from long range, where the Pioneers were five of nine. Transy also had a 22-16 edge in rebounds and scored 20 points off 13 Hanover turnovers.
 
Smith had 18 first-half points, hitting five of six from the field. She was just five points short of her career scoring high after just 20 minutes of action. Nicole Coffman had 11 points. Hopkins paced Hanover with nine points.
 
Transy is back in action on Saturday when the Pioneers travel to Rose-Hulman to take on the Engineers at 1 p.m.
